This information will help you to decide if you wish to stay at Bay Top Motel during Bike Week. This page is rather long, but it is in your best interest to read it thoroughly, as it will discuss our polices and rules.

About Our Location
This is a small 12 room motel located about one half mile from Weirs Beach and the largest vendor sites. We are set back from the road on a small hill overlooking the lake and the crowds. From our grassy hill, you can people watch on a grand scale.  No other place has a larger section of Route 3 in view.  If you are out in our Gazebo, this is the view of Route 3 to the south and this is the view to the north. Another view from down by our driveway entrance here.

First Half vs. Second Half of the Week
Each year we are seeing more folks coming for the first half of bike week. The first weekend is usually very busy, the weekdays are biker only days. There are no tourist, no second home owners or families. Everything is open, accessible, busy but not crowded, easily the best part of bike week. The end of bike week is usually crowded but for the past few years the city allows only bikes into the Weirs, the local tourist train runs commuter runs from the surrounding area into the Weirs. This seems to have greatly reduced traffic tie ups and folks walking along the road. In addition there are expanding vendor areas at Funspot, Meredith Harley, and Meadowbrook. In the past the greatest problems for us has been walking folks that want to stop a nd party on our hill that is for our guests only. The smoke, nudity, rowdy behavior and drunks have been greatly reduced to the disappointment of some. But as a motel owner it has been pure bliss to not have to deal with road side problem folks. If you need that kind of action you can find it at the Spoke or Saloon up the road.

Rental Periods & Rates
This year we are breaking bike week into three rental periods instead of the usual two. We will offer two night rentals for the the 13th and 14th, three night rentals for the 15th, 16th and 17 and a four night rental for the 18th to through the 21st. There is always someone here for five or more nights and that will create some one and two night openings but they are generally during the first half of bike week not the last weekend. We will give our returning customers until January 31 to lock in their dates and then rent the remaining rooms. The first half of the week the rates are $175 per night for two people in a room. We usually have four or five rooms open up for the first half. The second part of the week is $200 per night for two people and we usually have the same crowd each year. We expect to have one to three rooms open up due to June weddings and graduations. We prefer to have only two folks in a room, there are no cots available. The charge for an extra person in a room is $50 per night.

Parking
We have ample parking. We like to keep the bikes in front of the rooms, and the cars and trailers at either end of the parking lot. Please inform us as to how many bikes, trailers, or cars you are coming in so that we can be prepared to accommodate you.  For those who are concerned about the security of their bikes, everything is fenced off and we're always walking around looking for any people who don't belong.  We've never had an incident.

Just For Bike Week

  • We have an ample supply of old towels that we put out for bike cleaning.

  • The hose is down by the garage in case you need to wash your bike.

  • Bike week is the only time of the year that we provide free coffee to our guests.

  • The ice machine will be running non-stop and there will be plenty for all. We usually don't allow guests to fill large coolers from the ice machine, but we make an exception during bike week.

  • We put out a few charcoal grills, although several folks will bring their own, bigger and fancier grills. When the traffic gets heavy the cooks get going.

  • The jacuzzi will be hot and ready to soak in after a hard day of riding, which is good because the pool is usually always cold at that time of year.

  • Our property is fenced to enhance our privacy and security.

Having Friends Visit
During the first part of the week your friends are welcome to stop by to say hello or meet up for a ride. Our facilities, however, such as the pool or hot tub, remain available only to paying guests.  From Thursday on (earlier if things really get congested earlier in the week) access to the motel is for registered guests only, not friends, parents, children, etc.  Our grassy hill overlooking the road is very inviting to folks walking by. With only 12 rooms, it doesn't take us long to memorize faces and determine who belongs and who does not.  It is very rare to have a problem with a registered guest, however, the same cannot be said for visitors that are not registered paying guests.

Smoking Policy
This is a non smoking motel. No cigarettes, cigars, pipes, pot. Light up in the room or bathroom and you will checkout, without refund and a large charge to your credit card for deodorizing the room. Because wax always finds a way onto something it can damage, please do not bring candles into the rooms.  Because the next folks renting your room will find the lingering odor unpleasant, please do not burn incense either.  Basically, anything that burns oxygen is not allowed in the rooms. Bike week is an important kick off to our season, however it is followed by several just as important weeks and customers.  During this time, people have reserved rooms with the expectation that they will be non-smoking and odor free.

Deposits
If you are staying the first part of the week, a deposit of 100% is required by check or money order. If you are staying the second part of the week a deposit of 50% is required and the final 50% is due April first. Payment by cash or check. Credit cards are not accepted for deposits.

Cancellation policy
If you even think there is a possibility of having to cancel you should not make a reservation here. Minimum cancellation fee is 50% to 100%. We have found that the best customers have made their plans in advance, understand our rules and are pleasure to have here. We have also noticed cancellations do not come in February or March but at the end of May and June.  It is not unusual for us to keep the deposit, attempt to get the current occupant in the room to extend their stay at a reduced rate or call a friend and offer them the room for the cost of a take out dinner. If that fails the room will remain empty.
